MAST Now Offering JAWS Scripting Service
We are pleased to announce that Nik has completed both the basic and advanced JAWS Scripting Language (JSL) development courses through Freedom Scientific and we can now offer scripting services to clients and employers.
Freedom Scientific’s JAWS is a versatile screen reading application for Windows-based or web-based operating systems. Widely used in employment settings by people with vision loss, it has promoted employment for the blind for over 2 decades. JAWS even stands for Job Access With Speech.
Scripting is a way of streamlining JAWS for job specific software environments. For example, a call center might have specific data screens that operators move through when serving customers. JAWS will read from left to right, top to bottom unless told differently. Sometimes, this is not the most practical or efficient way to move through an application. JAWS scripting is a way to teach JAWS the best, most efficient ways to handle the screen’s information. It also is a way to set up shortcuts to make the software more efficient and streamlined for the user. JAWS scripting can make pretty much any software easier and faster to use. It also can customize software that has not been developed with screenreaders in mind and would otherwise be inaccessible.
JAWS with scripting opens up many doors of employment to visually impaired workers. The customization potential is vast. Now, we are able to offer scripting development and assistance to employers who want to make their workplaces more accessible and to clients who are working with employers or potential employers on accommodations in the workplace. This is something we have wanted to offer for a long time, and we are excited to be able to help open up more employment opportunities using JAWS with scripting.
