Technology education and use has become vital for clients to succeed in school, their personal lives and the workplace. Do you know what is and is not possible for your clients with this ever-changing technology? Do you know the challenges of adaptive technology and how to work with those challenges? Get hands-on instruction with the technology your clients use to gain insight that will better enable you to serve their needs.
Miles Access Skills Training has been teaching individuals with disabilities, professionals who work with them, technology vendors, and others who want to learn more about access technology since 2014. We’re known for teaching skills that create opportunity in ways that make people feel empowered and capable.
All workshops are facilitated by Niklas Petersson, a blind Access Technology Specialist with over 30 years of experience in IT, both as a user and teacher in both educational and corporate settings. Windows with JAWS Basic
Format: 4 hours (Two 2-hour sessions: each 1.5 hours teaching and demonstration, 0.5 hours Q&A)
Dates: September 4 and 11, 2018
Time: 11:00am to 1:00pm
Cost: $80
This workshop covers the basics of using Windows on a PC with JAWS screen reader. Participants will learn how JAWS is used to navigate the Windows environment and Jaws key functions.
- Learn JAWS core concepts, such as built in help features, training materials and command search.
- Set key JAWS preferences and configure it to work best for you or your student.
- Learn the very basics of how JAWS works in standard office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
- Understand key keyboard commands for both Jaws and Windows.
- Find resources and next steps.
Windows with JAWS Intermediate
Format: 4 hours (Two 2-hour sessions: each 1.5 hours teaching and demonstration, 0.5 hours Q&A)
Dates: September 18 and 25, 2018
Time: 11:00am to 1:00pm
Cost: $80
This workshop goes into more detail on how JAWS works with Windows and office applications.
- Learn advanced formatting and editing within MS Word using JAWS.
- Use JAWS to read, create and edit Power Point presentations.
- Read, create and edit Excel worksheets.
- Use cloud services such as Drop Box, Google Drive or One Drive.
- Find helpful resources and next steps.
